Each year, our 2000 dedicated people serve more than 6,000 Queenslanders across some 25 sites – from Tallebudgera to Biloela.
While these sites and services are very different in where they are and what they do, they all have one thing in common – they began with a local congregation working together to meet a need and serve their region and community.
To celebrate and commemorate these beginnings, Lutheran Services is conducting an Origin Stories project – to explore, document and share the proud histories and inspirational stories behind our many services and sites.
As a ministry of the Lutheran Church of Australia Queensland District, Lutheran Services reflects and builds on the Church’s life and mission. We are one Church with one Purpose and many Ministries.
We share a long history of congregations working together to build services in response to local needs. These services are central to the identity of the Church today — because serving others, especially the most vulnerable, is at the heart of the mission Christ gave to us as Church.
Lutheran Services is an integral part of our Church and who we are as Church. It represents the hands of the Church delivering vital services to the community. It provides a visible and accessible interface for our Church every day of the year.
Lutheran Services exists to serve. And serving others is at the heart of the Church’s mission.
Lutheran Services has grown out of the dreams and hard work of our founding Lutheran congregations. These services today are as much part of us as Church as they were when our congregations first gave birth to them. Today, your baby is so much bigger than we could have imagined!
This Origin Stories project celebrates and commemorates our early times as Church — and what God is building among us today. We pray that by engaging with these stories, those who serve so faithfully within Lutheran Services today will find their own place of connection with the vision from which Lutheran Services was born.
Through these Origin Stories, we honour the founding pioneers of all that is Lutheran Services today.
